Using Vide to Pull Textures from L4D2 Maps

1. Open Vide - https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/VIDE
2. Select (pakfile lump editor") then choose (open).
3. Find the map (.bsp) you want to load.
4. Once loaded click the (extract) button and extract it to where you want. This will create a .zip file of all the files in the .bsp to extract. 
5. Now put that zip file where you can open it up and see the contents. 7zip is a good free zip utility. 
6. Note - if a (material) is checkerboarding then it's probably missing in the (materials) folder of the .vpk. If a (model) is doing the same thing the odds are you have the model itself but not the texture that goes with it. Best thing to do is use crowbar (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Crowbar) to look at the model and see which texture(s) you need.  Some models need up to 4 and 5 textures to display correctly.  Once identified you will need to put the (models) texture(s) into the correct folder location(s).  These locations will be listed in the sentences above the (textures needed) on the same tab. Most of the time it is the materials/models/xxxx folder but on occasion I have found it to be different. After adding them, a restart of L4D2 or the editor will be required for them to take effect. 
7. Further note - every texture has a .vmt and .vtf file. If you find a .vmt without a .vtf open it with a text editor and see what base textures it is asking for (ie, "$basetexture" "Models/props_c17/metalladder002") sometimes it needs two or three textures just to make it work correctly.  Any textures you don't already have will need to be pulled also and put where directed by the .vmt.  For instance, in the example above (metalladder002) texture would go into the (materials/models/props_c17) folder.
